Every woman who has ever been pregnant will know that there a few items that make pregnant life that little bit easier to handle. You may get different answers depending on who you ask but I thought I would share my top 5 pregnancy essentials:
1. An Extra Pillow
A lot of people will suggest that you need a pregnancy pillow, you know, one of those giant curved squishy sausages that take up half of your bed. If you’re like me and are always extra warm at night time, this tends to just get in the way and agitate me. I found that a cheap ordinary pillow between the thighs made for a much more comfortable sleep, plus it’s a lot cheaper!
2. Stretch Mark Oil
Taking care of yourself is so important during pregnancy and can help you feel a little bit more human. Although I did still end up with stretch marks, I found that the ‘Mum To Be’ Oil by nspa made my skin so wonderful and soft. Plus, once you start to feel your little one moving around, it’s a wonderful bonding experience to sit and rub your belly while they kick about.
3. A Good Pregnancy Book
You’re going to get given a lot of advice throughout pregnancy, unfortunately this is whether you ask for it or not. It can be difficult to know who’s right, especially if this is your first baby. Having a guide that contains advice from professionals can be really helpful which is why I liked ‘How to Grow a Baby’ – By Clemmie Hooper (@mother_of_daughters). She’s not only a mother but also a midwife and her book definitely helped guide me through pregnancy and understand what was going on with my changing body.
4. Maternity Jeans
If you only get one piece of ‘maternity’ clothing, make it a pair of jeans. You can go up a size in many things while your bump grows and have it still be comfortable but jeans are not one of them. I found the over the bump ones give a bit of extra support and if you manage to find a decent pair that has adjustable elastic then they can last you through your whole pregnancy.
5. Pregnancy Vitamins
Taking care of yourself and your baby is the most important thing so making sure your body is getting all the right vitamins is definitely essential. The trick with this one is that you don’t need to buy the most expensive or well known brand, many of the supermarket own brands contain exactly the same ingredients so it’s just a case of comparing the labels to make sure you get the right one for you and your pregnancy.
What are your top 5 pregnancy essentials? I’d love to hear what you suggest.
